Introduction and Classroom Activities to Promote Reading
This DVD is designed for educators to learn about My Arabic Library and to acquire teaching methods to help them use the My Arabic Library program effectively in classrooms and other educational settings.
The DVD can be used to supplement a My Arabic Library teacher training session or for independent or small group study sessions. The DVD features a 16 minute introduction to the My Arabic Library program and six demonstrations of classroom activities to promote reading using the My Arabic Library books.
How to use the DVD:
Part 1 – Introduction to My Arabic Library – 16 minutes
The Introduction explains all components of the My Arabic Library program including the range of books included in each library set, the benefits of a classroom library and the importance of teacher training. The introduction features testimonials from many Arabic education experts, teachers and parents on the benefits of the My Arabic Library program.
Ideally, the Introduction to My Arabic Library should be viewed at the beginning of a teacher training session. School principals and relevant administrators should also be encouraged to attend this portion of the training session in order to introduce them to the benefits of the My Arabic Library, and secure their ongoing support for the program.
Part 2 – Demonstrations of Classroom Activities to Promote Reading
This section contains six demonstrations of classroom activities based on My Arabic Library titles. The six activities presented explain how to use My Arabic Library to:
- Promote independent reading
- Support the curriculum
- Create a reading environment
- Support critical thinking skills
Each activity begins with an introduction and a step-by-step explanation of the activity. The activities presented in the six demonstrations correlate to classroom reading activities described in the My Arabic Library Teacher Guide.
Any or all of the six demonstrations may be viewed as part of a My Arabic Library teacher training session or for independent or small group study sessions. After completing the My Arabic Library training sessions, it is recommended that teachers review the DVD, discuss its content and how it can be applied in their classrooms.
